DescriptionExtractby Donald Alexander of registration at Edinburgh on that date at the request of Robt. Deane, advocate. as procurator for Wm. Law, goldsmith burgess of Edinburgh, of disposition and assignation granted by Law in which are listed various debts giving to him by Charles, E. of Mar and others (including several persons whose cautioners are also named) respecting debts from 1675 to 1683. Included also are: James M. of Douglas, Wm. Purvis of that Ilk, Sir Robt. Dalziell, George Stirling surgeon in Edinburgh, Robt. Cunninghame of Auchenarine, Richard Murray of Burghtoune, Sir Godfrey McKylloch of Myretoune, Alex. Gartshoar of that Ilk, merchant in Edinburgh, James Kerr [or Row] merchant in Edinburgh, Robt. Campbell, merchant in Edinburgh, John Shaw of ?Tarnbeg, Sir John Nisbett of Dirletoune, Sir John Maxwell of Nether Pollock, ------- Kennedy, treasurer of Jedburgh (for the town), James Baird, younger of Laughtounhall; Wm. Whyte, factor to John Wedderburne of Gifffourd, John Riddell of Hayning, James Hamilton of Aikenhead, James Stewart of Ardvorlich, younger, Geo. Grahame, merchant in Edb. Thomas Carmichaell of Eastend, John Mure, merchant in Edinburgh and Donald McLeod, writer there; deceased Edward Cleghorne, deacon of the Goldsmith of Edb., James Cockburne, boxmaker, Alex. Reid elder, James Penman & Thomas Yorston, goldsmiths and quartermastersof said calling on behalf of said trade; Sir Thomas Stewart of Blair; Jmaes Menzies son to Alex. Menzies of Culterans; Robt. Currie, burgess of Edinburgh;Nicoll Brantine, fiar of Ardoch; Alex. McMillan and Donald McNeill etc.etc.[too lengthy to list further].
Also mentions diamond and gold rings, gold and silver plate belonging to him and debts owing valued at 20,000 merks. All assigned to John Law his eldest son & his heirs and donators, together with all other goods and gear owned by Law at his decease with reservation to his wife, Jean Campbell of household plenishings. Also assigns to son lands of Lawnstoune, Randlestoune & other heritage belonging to him in fee, provided the son makes payment of or is responslible for sums due toother children according to band of provision of this date, signed at Edinburgh 25 July 1683.
