Letter to James McQueen, Glasgow, discussing proposal to publish a newspaper in the West Indies made by Mr McCombie, cost of which, including the shipping of a printing press and sending out a journeyman printer on three years’ contract might exceed £300. Certain presses employed in Chalmers’ printing office in Aberdeen are not recommended for the purpose. McCombie was anxious to be ready to start in the New Year, but the ? St Vincent had sailed and the ? Active was now ready for sea and no more ships would be sailing for Grenada until February. Also comments on the activity of ‘enemies’ of the colonies while ‘those connected with them continue lethargic & supine in the extreme, & I am not without very gloomy anticipations of the future.
