In the memorial of the children of Lt. Col. Henry Knight of 21st Regt. of Foot and Miss Mary Erskine are named as William, Henry, Augustus Pitt and Mary Anne Knight.Thomas Erskine had married firstly in 1705 Dame Margaret Burnet, relict of deceased Sir Charles Maitland of Pitrichie (one son and daughter of marriage - William fatuous and unable to succeed and Nicholas who survived her father but had since died), and secondly, in 1746, Anne Forbes, third daughter of Lord Forbes (postnuptial contract of 7 Apr. 1747). She died in Oct. 1750, leaving one daughter, Mary, now deceased. Thomas Erskine had died in Oct 1761. William Erskine, the fatuous son of the first marriage was still alive and there is discussion of continued provision for him and claim of Thomas Erskine, second son of James Erskine, son of late James Erskine of Finlaystown, brother of William Erskine of Pittodrie, the father of Thomas Erskine, late of Pittodrie, for having himself served curator to fatuous William Erskine as nearest agnate and possible heir male. Various queries are asked regarding the position. |
