| Administrative History | William Stewart of Carnaveran was a banker, commissary or sheriff clerk in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.
Douglas Gordon Barron was born in 1854, the son of the United Presbyterian minister of Dunning, Perthshire. He was educated at Madras College, St. Andrews, and then at St. Andrews University, graduating MA in 1876. He was licensed to preach in 1879 and worked as an assistant at Greyfriars and New Greyfriars in Edinburgh. In 1885 he was ordained and admitted to Dunnottar Parish near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire. He was awarded the OBE in 1920 and graduated DD from Aberdeen University in 1921. He resigned in 1923 due to ill health. He was a keen historian and wrote on the subject of local history, though he also published sermons he had preached during the First World War. He died at Aberfoyle in 1947. |
