| Description | Letter from J. H. Bernard, Provost's House, Trinity College, Dublin, to Herbert Grierson. Hopes that they may see Flora even though Mary thought it unlikely in her letter, and was glad to hear that Grierson had an eventful trip to the United States. He was disappointed that he could not visit those Universities who had extended him an invitation on his own visit there, but even more disappointed that he could not go to Glasgow to accept the Honorary Degree they had awarded him in 1925 due to ill health. His heart is better but he finds conversation exhausting. He is keen to hear news about his granddaughters and advises Grierson to keep Letty 'out of Ireland' as he would not like his granddaughters to grow up there. He jokes that as he has seven granddaughters and four grandsons he is 'a grandfather raised to the 11th power, as the mathematicians would say.' He also asks if Grierson can provide any information about the publishing firm T. and T. Clark, 38 George Street, Edinburgh, due to the time thay have taken to print his book, a 'Commentary on St. John'. He is glad to know that Grierson is keeping well, and notes that they are trying to obtain a country house near Dublin for the summer, 'where I can have Maudie and all her children'. |
