| Description | The inscription on the front of the sketchbook reads "Charles Carmichael 1885". The sketches are in ink, pencil and watercolour. The subject matter includes landscapes, architectural sketches of buildings, decorations and motifs, and includes technical drawings. The locations covered in the sketchbooks include, Pitsligo Church, Jedburgh Abbey, Pluscarden Priory, Midmar castle and sites in Belgium. Some of the pages show signs of being coated with a protective solution, which has now yellowed. Additional pages have also been added to this book. |
