Description | The earlier minutes are complete in minute books, while the minutes from 1969 onwards are on loose paper sheets. The minute sets are most complete in the early period, until 1949 and in the 1970's and 1980's.
Early minutes, 1876-1944, are completely in minute books recording the meeting. These books have a clear structure throughout the individual meetings. In the meetings previous minutes are read as well as correspondences proceeding on to organisation issues, such as demonstrations. There are also reports given during meetings and union and political matters are discussed.
From the 1970's onwards, records are more complex, containing agendas, minutes (of council and executive committee), correspondences, special events, printed matter relating to the councils activity, annual financial reports, affiliation lists and relevant newspaper cuttings. Files from the mid-1990's are less consistence, containing mostly agendas and minutes. |
