Administrative History | Reverend James Gordon was a son of the manse, born in Banchory-Devenick (Kincardineshire, now Aberdeenshire), and studied at King's College, Aberdeen. He intruded on the parish of Foveran, Aberdeenshire, in 1692 at the demand of George, Earl Marischal, and other heritors, but demitted in 1696. He moved to Yorkshire, where he became rector of Flamborough: later he returned to Scotland as an Episcopal minister and took up a place at Montrose. His difficulties at Foveran were outlined in 'A True Account of the Procedure of the New Established Presbitry in the Diocese of Aberdeen against Mr James Gordon' (1696). He died in 1732. |
