| Administrative History | Andrew Richardson (d. 1790), was admitted to the parish of Broughton (Peb) on his ordination in 1735 and presented to Innerkeithing (now Inverkeithing, Fife) in 1749. He was not accepted by parishioners at the presbytery of Dunfermline until the presbytery was directed to admit him by the General Assembly on 18 June 1752. In spite of the controversy he continued in the charge until his death. His admission was hotly opposed by Thomas Gillespie (1708-1774), when minister of the parish of Carnock (Fife) who was deposed from Carnock for continuing to disagree with the decision of the General Assembly in Richardson's favour in 1752. He later formed with others the first 'relief' church in 1761. His writings are mostly on the subject of Church and State. |
