Letter from Calcutta, 29 June 1839. Discusses difficulty in obtaining leave at present time - he must wait until he is confirmed in new appointment, possibly at Darjeeling or Chittagong. Relates future plans and movements. Thanks her for copy of 'Gazette of the Bruges part of my family', and describes changes to his physical appearance.

Letter from Berhampoor, 10 July 1839. Discusses inflammation in his eyes, piece of music he has sent her, and movements and current duties. He has been suffering from fatigue... [continued in MS 1162/3/1/6]
