Also writes about his opportunities for leave so that he can visit her in Madras, discusses climate and letters he has received from friends, and enquires after her. Describes Noacolly (Bengal), his place of residence, accident while driving carriage, and expresses his love for her (1 April 1839).

Letter to Anne (19 April 1839): he has received her letter and is sorry to hear she has been ill. He was vexed by her father's request that he write to him first before taking any leave with result that he had missed opportunity. Plans to take leave in June now.
