Description | Letters written by Francis Grant, Georgia and Spanishtown to Charles Gordon. First is duplicate of roginal sent by pacquet 'Speedy'. Harvesting of cane had begun but result is poor owing to destruction of many negroes during scarcity and effect of heavy rain. Many negroes are sick but ten new arrivals had been bought for £65. Second acknowledges letter of 29 December and gives more encouraging report on Georgia estate, and sugar shipped home. His brother is on military duty in St. Thomas; the enemy is hourly expected. |
