Custodial History | Marginal note suggests that MS 1010/1 was owned by R. Logie. |
Source | James Fowler Kellas Johnstone, (1846-1928), bibliographer, gave the manuscript to the Library in 1921. Johnstone was born around 1846 and served his apprenticeship as an accountant in Aberdeen. He then practised for a few years in Liverpool before moving to London. Even when there, he devoted all his spare time to historical research on Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. In 1871 he began collecting bibliographical notes on Aberdeen, and worked for the New Spalding Club on this and other subjects, mostly bibliographical in nature. He was on the library committee of the University, and on the committee of the Aberdeen University Review, to which he was a frequent contributor. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. by Aberdeen University in 1925, and died in 1928, aged 82, in Aberdeen. His bibliography was published after his death. |
