| Administrative History | Antoen des Traos (Antoine des Traos), secretary to Wilhelm, Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel |
| Description | Letter in French from Amtoen des Traos, secretary to Wilhelm, Landgraf of Hesse-Kassel, asking whether the recent letter from the Landgraf carried to Beale by a Greek messenger has arrived safely; apologises for his long silence as he has been on a six-month voyage. Describes the responses in Germany to the 'Livre de Concorde', Konkordienbuch or Book of Concord of the Lutheran chirch, published in Dresden in 1580. Mentions the theologian 'Jacques André' [Jakob Andreae, Lutheran theologian and formulator of the Formula Concordiae, the confession of the Lutheran church, published in the Book of Concord], August Duke of Saxony, at whose court Andreae has been acrive, and 'his previous master' Friedrich, Duke of Württemberg. Those unwilling to sign the Concord in Saxony, in particular most of the professors of all faculties at the university of Wittenberg, are being pursued rigourously. The Elector Palatine [Ludwig VI, Kurfürst von der Pfalz] is adopting much the same approach. Mentions the case of a secretary of Duke Casimir [Johann Casimir, Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg]; with further details of the reactions to the settlement. Deas Traos also recommends the cloth merchant Heinrich Schroeder to Beale.
