| Administrative History | Jacobus Regius (Jacob de Conink) 1545-1601, minister of the Dutch Stranger Church (Nederduitsche Vluchtelingenkerk) in London, and also minister at Coventry and Middelburg. |
| Description | Letter in Latin discussing the education of John Hales Abstract: [Regius] has been trying to get the elders (seniors) of his Church to confirm him as a preacher or stop him preaching, so that he may decide on a career. Has had fever. Though this was not serious Peter asked him to let John Hales go away. He agreed as he knew Beale had put him in charge of the boy and as he could not teach him himself because of ill-health. Peter had now taken him into the country, to a relative’s; his studies are suffering. Peter has taken the boy’s education upon himself, but he is not fitted for it – not to mention teaching Greek. It would be best if Beale placed him with Dr. Migrodes where he could learn Greek and speak French. Regius wished this both for the boy’s sake and his late uncle’s. [end of abstract by James D. George] The Johannis Halesius of whom Rehius writes is presumably John Hales (d. 1608), the nephew and heir of Beale's friend and associate John Hales (c. 1516 - 1572). John (or Jan) Migrode, a protestant refugee from Zeeland, was the minister of the Dutch Strangers Church in Colchester at this time.
