Administrative HistoryWolfgang Musculus (Wolfgang Müslin) of Bern, Switzerland, fl. 1578, son of the Reformer Abraham Müslin or Musculus 1534 - 1591
DescriptionSigned and sealed holograph undertaking by Wolfgang Musculus of Bern
Abstract:
Undertaking by Wolfgang Musculus in favour of Beale. Musculus has received £12 in English money (“duodecim minas”) from John Bodley through William Martin and undertakes to indemnify Beale who had acted as his guarantor, if necessary. Recites that in a letter of 4 January 1578 his father said he would lend 40 gold crowns to Andreas Garth, to whom Martin was related, and a young man from Lausanne, who were obviously going to England. The money from Bodley was an advance against this sum. It appears that the “loan” was to be repaid by handing over the money to Wolfgang for his support, but that the two young Swiss had not yet arrived. [abstract by James D. George]

The undertaking follows on Müslin's letter of appeal to Beale of 15 October 1578, MS 1009/2/18
