Administrative HistoryThe son of James Cruickshank of Rothiemay, John Cruickshank graduated AM from Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1809. He was appointed assistant and successor to Robert Hamilton as Professor of Mathematics at the college in 1817, and succeeded to the full charge in 1829. He was awarded an honorary LL.D in 1834. When Marischal was united with King's College in 1860, he chose to retire, and he died in 1875.
