Administrative History | Robert Hamilton (1743 - 1829), political economist and mathematician, Chair of mathematics, 1817. Hamilton's chief work was 'Inquiry concerning the rise and progress, the reduction and present state, and the management of the national debt of Great Britain and Ireland, 1813. Professors Copland and Hamilton, with the approbation of the magistrates and College, made exchange of their classes and duties, Professor Copland resuming charge of the Natural Philosophy class and Professor Hamilton acting as head of mathematics. No formal changes of offices was, however, made until 1817. William Jack was the Principal of King's College, 1815 - 1855. |
