Administrative History	A register of midwives was established by the Society in 1827 (the official national register was not introduced until 1915). Members of the Society were not allowed to employ unregistered midwives.
Description	Dated Aberdeen, 12 July 1842, the certificate is made out to a Mrs Isobel Sim and signed by Alexander Fraser, Senior Surgeon to the Aberdeen General Dispensary and Lying-in Institution [established 1834] and Lecturer in Midwifery at the University of Aberdeen.
