Administrative HistorySir William McEwen [or Macewen] (1848-1924), pioneer in brain surgery. Macewen studied medicine at the University of Glasgow from 1865 to 1869 and graduated MB, CM.
DescriptionDraft letter from Sir James Reid to Sir William McEwen dated 8 September 1916. Thanks him for his letter informing him about his journey and reception with the King and Queen. Notes that he saw Marnoch recently and reported his [Reid's] memory of the operation two years previously [see above]: 'He told me that he made his incision towards the middle line of the abdomen in case he should find the appendix displaced and he wished to be sure he could find it wherever it was'. Reports further comments by Marnoch on the operation and notes that he enjoyed his recent stay and opportunity to get to know him well.
