DescriptionTitle page: 'Notes of Dr. Cullen's Lectures on the Practice of Physic'. Notes taken by James McGrigor [copied by McGrigor from another source]. The lectures were originally given c. 1777 (see page 111). Numbered from pages 1-136, the volume begins with notes taken at the fifth lecture at which Cullen referred to the printing of a text book, the content of which he describes at some length, noting that in the first paragraph he attempts to give a general overview and definition of the subject: 'I think Dr. Boerhaave has not succeeded in giving a definition…He totally omits in his definition the prevention of diseases, which should by no means be omitted'. Pages 1-10 contain further notes on Cullen's discussion of the opening paragraphs of his text book. The remainder of the volume appears to contain notes of Cullen's expanded discussion of the subjects covered in the text book, which include:
