Publication Note | Note by W. Duncan This is a constant theme in the correspondence betweeen the Rowett Research Institute Secretary and Department of Agriculture for Scotland through to 1940 when the final accounts are shown. The Secretary gives severaladn varying accounts of deposited sums over the years. It must be remembered that any monies remaining unspent at the end of the financial year would be deducted from the Department grant the following year. [e.g. see Carnegie trust grants for books], hence a fair degree of what might now be described as creative accounting. this may wwell be the reason for John Boyd Orr's feeling of resentment at having to spend a lot of his time on financial matters rather than on research |
