Description | Slide shows black and white engraving of unlabelled tortoise. Label at bottom of image reads 'Flatters and Garnett Ltd. 309 Oxford Rd., Manchester'. In 1901, Flatters and Garnett formed a partnership by opening a chemists in the Deansgate, Manchester. With Flatters' interest and skill in developing lantern and microscope slides they sold the chemists in 1906, and the business was moved to Dover St. to focus on hiring and selling large numbers of lantern slides on all aspects of natural history. In 1913 the company moved to an even larger premises at 309 Oxford Road, opposite the University. Teachers in many parts of the world increasingly used Flatters & Garnett for supplies of microscope slides and accessories for collecting and preparing specimens.
