Description | Petition (contemporary copy): Francis Cantly, gardener of Balveny, to Banffshire Justices of the Peace. Reports wilful fire-raising on garden lands of Balvenie with destruction of house, crops and stock of petitioner and damages to neighbours. Demands sentence upon man now in custody. The attached Report of examination of accused before William Rose, Justice of the Peace, shows that man was John Donald or Macdonald, a herdsman from the Isles who had fought in Jacobite army at Culloden and Falkirk and had seen Prince sail for France.
