| Custodial History | The collection was deposited by Alexander Walker (1825-1903); Dean of Guild, Aberdeen. Walker was born in Old Aberdeen in 1825 and educated at Aberdeen Grammar School. His father was a merchant, William Walker, and he joined the family firm when he left school. He was a notable figure in Aberdeen life, serving as Dean of Guild from 1872 to 1880 and as Vice-President of the Traders’ Defence Association. An elder of West Parish Church, he carried out a broad variety of charity work in the city, and was also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He took a keen interest in education and was involved in several schools. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. by Aberdeen University in 1895, and died in 1903. |
