Administrative History | Mackay, James Finlayson (1914- ); M.B., Ch.B. 1937. Son of John Mackay, M.A. 1893, training college lecturer. Junior resident Medical Officer in Aberdeen and London from 1937-39. Army service 1939-45. Appointments in venereology in Notts. 1945-50. Consultant in venereology to N. Lancs and S. Westmorland from 1950. He married Jenny V. Duffus at Aberdeen on the 23 September 1940.
James Mackay's sister, Jean Murrion Finlayson (1903- ) graduated M.A. (Hons) in 1924. She took part in the first student show 'Stella the Bajanella' in 1922. She was an assistant educational supervisor and staff training manager for Harrods in London from 1929-48, retail staff manager for Scotch wool shops based in London and Greenock from 1959-61 and a consultant for the Retail Trades Education Council in London from 1961-63. |

Description | Student Show material collected by James Finlayson Mackay during his involvement with the show in the 1930s when he was a medical student at the University of Aberdeen. The shows include Town and Gown 1933/34, The Spice of Life 1934, Caravanella 1935, Out for the Count 1936, Spic and Span 1936, That's What You Think 1937, Beating Time 1938 and Hits and Misses 1939. The collection also includes a small selection of material relating to the first official student show in 1922, Stella the Bajanella, in which his sister, Jean Mackay, played a prominent role. |
