The son of James Jamieson, Doctor of Medicine in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, James Auldjo Jamieson was an advocate in Aberdeen. He was a Crown Agent between 1874 - 1880 and 1885 - 1886. He was also a director of the Bank of Scotland, and was on the directorate of the Scottish Widows Fund and the Scottish American Investment Company. He was a commissioner upon the Duke of Hamilton's estates both on Arran and Hamilton. In addition to his Edinburgh and London residences he had estates in Forfar.
