DescriptionLetter from John Ellis, Gray's Inn, London, to David Skene in which he discusses exchange of specimens remarking that he has found that where he gives more liberally, he receives more; he illustrates this by discussing his relations with Dr Garden; he states that the Duchess of Portland is appreciative of his promise to send her items, Ellis will let him know what she needs; Solander considers 'Albin's Insects' 'very indifferent' but Ellis states that he is on the look out for a book on insects for a gentleman in Ireland and may find something to interest Skene in that search, good books on insects are very dear; he discusses hygrometers; he longs for some 'smutty corn' in order to try Linnaeus' experiments; he has not yet got Pallas' book, he thinks it is a book worth having; he discusses the areas in which he differs from Pallas and refers to a specimen of isis hippuris that he has, 24 February 1767.
