Description | Letter from John Ellis, Gray's Inn, London, to David Skene in which he states that he has received the specimens sent by Skene and comments on the purple tubipora and branched millepora; his paper on sponges will not be printed for another month, he recommends that Skene put the sponges he collects straight into glasses of sea water after they were collected; he discusses echinated sertularia and pepperdulse, referring to Robert Morrison's last volume; he comments on criticisms of his book by Pallas; he admires Linnaeus' attitude to criticisms levelled against him; he refers to false statements by Christian-Wilhelm Buttner; he describes animals he received from Garden that [W.] Hunter has also specimens of, 30 June 1766. |
