| Description | Letter from John Ellis, Gray's Inn, London, to David Skene in which he remarks that he is persuaded by what Skene says regarding the practice of physick needing his whole attention and will not be so impatient in the future; he will consult Solander and write to Linnaeus about Stoller's komschatka sertularias; he sends 'little purple eschara' and describes it; he has received a kind of millepora coral from Mr Borlase in Cornwall and would be glad to know the title of Donati's work which describes it; he comments on Linnaeus's Mollusca remarking that he thinks he has had no chance to see them alive; he does not believe that Linnaeus has ever seen urticae marina and he will send Skene Dr Gartner's plate; he has raised four or five plants of rheum palmatum from Dr Mounsey's seeds, they are growing well and he believes that they will be of great benefit to the nation; he refers to a specimen of sertularia that Pallas has requested of him and asks if Skene had plenty to spare and would oblige him; he will send a sketch of Lord Northington's conservatory and describes conservatory belonging to Mr Webb and the plants he grows in them; he describes his health; refers to Dr. Turnbull who has lived in Smyrna and Alexandria for 15 years and describes his cure for the gout; he describes his work on sponges and recommends that he reads accounts in Philosophical Transactions by Peysonnell and Count Marsigli, 26 November 1765. |
