Date21 November 1766
Extent1 item
Creator NameDavid Skene (1731 - 1770), M.D., of Aberdeen
DescriptionLetter from David Skene to John Ellis in which he explains why he has not been in touch for so long - 'the most foolish of all nature's productions (man) has been my only subject'; he is making preparations next spring for a trip to sea and asks him to let him know if he has any advice on preparation and equipment; he states that some pennae marinae are now available from 50 miles away and promises a good specimen for the Duchess of Portland; he asks him to let him know if anything new has occurred and if Pallas' book is available; he has written for a copy of 'Baster's 3rd Opouse' and remarks that he is strangely inexact in his figures and descriptions; in his last letter from Linnaeus, he has admitted that sponges are zoophyta but 'he is very defective in the vermes marini' and thinks he has some which are unknown to Linnaeus, 21 November 1766.
