Date2003
Extent1 file
DescriptionFolder contains:

Correspondence concerning preparations for Hugo Manson's stay, dedication ceremony for Memorial Square and Dukes Wood history;

A copy of the 'Houston/ Grampian Association' Membership Directory for 2003;

A report by Hugo Manson on the research trip to the USA made possible in part by a grant from the American Trust for the British Library;

Handwritten unfinished draft of a report including partial diary;

Two sets of colour photographs from May 1991. One set is taken at the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial and the site of the Dukes Wood Oil Field in Nottinghamshire during a visit by former Noble Drilling employees. The other set is taken at the Victoria Restaurant (Nottinghamshire?) during the same trip;

Photocopies of correspondence dating 1942 - 1943 between Noble Drilling in Oklahoma, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in London, and various others concerning a business arrangement (involving drilling at Dukes Wood Oil Field, although for security reasons this was not mentioned directly) between those two companies. Much of the correspondence concerns contractual details and the practicality of travelling to Britain during wartime;

A clipping from 'The Daily Ardmoreite', July 10th 2003, which mentions Hugo Manson and discusses the 'Lives in the Oil Industry' project;

Photocopy of an official black and white photograph showing men posing for the camera. The men are American oil-field workers, and the photograph is taken prior to their departure from New York to England, 1943;

Flier for 'Oil Patch Warriors', 1943 - a play about the Americans sent to Eakring during World War Two;
General information about Dukes Wood oil field.

Photographs from this research trip.
