Administrative History | In 1906, the University celebrated its Quartercentenary (strictly this should have been celebrated in 1895) culminating with the conclusion of its ambitious Buildings Extension Scheme (1892 - 1906). The magnificent new building at Marischal, designed by the Aberdeen architect Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, was opened by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra during a state visit to Aberdeen. For comprehensive account of the celebrations, see P. J. Anderson, 'Record of the Celebration of the Quartercentenary of the University of Aberdeen, 1906', Aberdeen University Studies: No. 29 (1907). |
