DescriptionLetter to James Gordon of Letterfourie from his nephew James Duff, London, regarding bills, Bremner’s plans to pay his debts, even though the bond is lost, news of Nicoll, returned from India as a clerk, and living in Aberdeen to avoid expense until he returns to India, he also owes money, Davidson’s financial difficulties, news from Madeira where Duff’s brother Robert has been visiting the western parishes to estimate the quality of the coming vintage, Murray has left Madeira, reports of letters from his brothers Patrick and John in India, organising letters of recommendation for John from Lord Findlater and others, rumoured financial difficulties of Loughnane who is still living a lavish life of musical parties, ‘now at Cheltenham in an expensive house, basking in the beams of Royalty’, the city trade is still very unsettled, 17 July 1788.
