DescriptionLetter to Alexander Gordon, Letterfourie, from his brother James, London, regarding arrival of company’s books to December 1774, too many Portuguese debts, it is too heavy for a frank and Rannes will take it to Banffshire, thick snow, tired of the house he is living in (leased by Alexander in Bury Court), he has seen better places with lodging, counting house and garret for a servant, but no kitchen or place for a woman, asks what family Alexander plans to bring to London, the Thames is frozen, blocking in the Indiaman intended to take Captain Duff and his family to India, ‘hope he won’t leave his Brother William there as you have enough of them already tho’ I suppose them good lands’, death of Lord Almuir, 22 January 1776
