DescriptionLetters from Alexander Gordon in Madeira to his brother James Gordon of Letterfourie, first, copy letter of one sent by the Bologne man of war with papers relating to the Lord Anson’s Prize, sending a shipment of wine via Guernsey, shortage of wheat, beef, butter and candles, salt fish growing scarce, 24 November 1762; second, letter mentioning shortage of everything except flax, James’ plans for supply, asking for good quality printed cottons and linens, often difficult to get gold and dollars, news of some of the other merchant houses in operation, complaint from McKenzie re wine: ‘It is impossible to get Wines of the Collour they would have them & good at same time’, 28 November 1762
