DescriptionCopy letter to James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, from Daniel Henry Smith, Madeira, including request for a ten gallon measure and praise of wine for Mr Bond, no vessels from Britain for a long time, some ships now appearing having been separated from fleets in bad weather, pleased to hear of preparations for military operations in America, business slow without ships, small quantities of wheat and flour, fish sales, no beef or butter, surprised to find Indian corn being shipped from Liebau in the Baltic, in his apprenticeship in Germany he knew of flax and linen coming from there, winding up a company’s business, request for staves, no staves can be brought from America, 16 March 1776; letter to Alexander Gordon, Letterfourie, from his brother James, London, to cover the copy, glad Alexander has sett part of his Buchan farm for a good price, settling accounts on George Riddoch, financial difficulties of Hamilton, shipping detained several weeks in the Channel by the wind, dispatch of wheat and flour to Madeira, 8 May 1776
