DescriptionLetter to James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, from James Duff, Madeira, regarding bills, shipping, and delivery of flour, the wheat ‘may become valuable bye and bye if the people in America continue obstinate and their ports are shut up’, new vintage not expected to be so plentiful as first thought, practising reserve in speaking about American affairs, hoping the ‘disaffected may soon be brought to reason. We confess we should not be sorry they were treated with some severity and the ringleaders brought to punishment in order to deter them from entering again so wantonly into rebellion … We suppose few or no orders can be executed for America except it be for the Gentlemen of the army now there’, ‘Mr. Smith’s arm is almost well but he can’t yet write cleverly’, list of bills, 15 July 1775
