DescriptionLetter to James Gordon of Letterfourie, London, from Daniel Henry Smith, Madeira, regarding copy letters and bills, keen to hear from them and their opinion on America, asking for favours for the governor, the governor goes to a lot of trouble to stop the exportation of money from the island, hoping for ships from England and particularly Cooper’s as he will bring Captain Duff, bad winter resulting in lots of shipwrecks, too much fish on the market, thanking for lottery tickets and asking for more to be bought, Searle may intend smuggling wine into New York, he is in financial trouble, prices of flour and wheat, hopes of getting more from America, they think the people of New York will soon break the resolutions of Congress regarding banned goods, 11 March 1775. With wrapper and note regarding commission for trusses for his rupture.
