| Administrative History | Alexander Keith (d 1819) of Ravelston, Edinburgh, was the son of Alexander Keith (1705 - 1792), an under-clerk in the Court of Session, by Johanna, third daughter of John Swinton, of Peebleshire. Though trained as a writer to the signet, he occupied himself mainly with antiquarian pursuits, and was fellow of the Philosophical and Royal Societies of Edinburgh, and of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He founded the Keith Prize (Royal Society of Arts in Edinburgh) and was a friend of Sir Walter Scott. For further details see DNB. |
