Administrative History | The Royal Medal of the Royal Society of London is also known under the title of the Queen's Medal. Three such awards are made annually by the British Sovereign upon the recommendation of the Society's Council, two for the most important contributions to the advancement of Natural Knowledge and one for distinguished contributions in the applied sciences.
Hans Kosterlitz received the award in 1979 in recognition of his distinguished work on narcotics which lead to the discovery of the enkephalins in 1975. |
