Letter from L.W. Mapson, Low Temperature Research Station, Cambridge, requesting a small amount of galactose-1-phosphate, 24 April 1953. With Kosterlitz's reply, suggesting that he contacts Dr J.S. Folley, of the National Research in Dairying, to whom he gave his last sample two years ago, 27 April 1953.
Correspondence with Dr (later, Professor) Alfonso Matallana, Department of Pharmacology, University of Cali, Colombia, regarding on-going research with Professor Otto Krayer at Harvard Medical School (continuing collaborative work begun during Kosterlitz's sabbatical at Harvard - Matallana confirms that they have been very successful in producing the off-on rhythm in the heart-lung preparation of the cat), his plans to undertake a visiting fellowship to Aberdeen (unrealised), and subsequently, plans for a further year's research in various American Universities (funded by a Rockefeller Fellowship), March - December 1954. Also, letters regarding his return to the University of Cali, his promotion to Professor, international congresses and travel, including a visit to Aberdeen, January 1955 - May 1956 and January 1963. In his letter of 10 January 1963 Kosterlitz asks if Matallana might be interested in resuming their research collaboration 'of almost ten years ago', informing him that his laboratory is presently engaged in an investigation of the action of morphine and other analgesics on the efferent part of the autonomic nervous system.
Correspondence with Dr Brian F. Matthews, Department of Dermatology, Cardiff Royal Infirmary, regarding his move to Aberdeen to take up the post of lecturer in digestion, January - February 1956. Most of the correspondence is taken up with issues surrounding travel and accommodation, but the two earliest letters in the series refer to the organisation of his teaching duties, including reference to reference books, slides and order of lectures.
