DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, 7 Via Venti Settembre, Rome, to her relatives, regarding her own illness (sandfly fever); treatment with seidlitz powder and quinine-based medicine; Dr. Bretschneider was sent for; Uncle's relaxed attitude to her illness; Dr. Brock, primed, agreed that Chamonix was the perfect place for her recovery; Uncle is no use at helping Aunt; he procrastinates over leaving for Chamonix, changing his story over whether his Bible Society work is urgent or not; Dr. Bretschneider mentioned that Uncle's health would also suffer if they did not leave soon, so now there is a rush to go; Uncle has to consider what military requirements will affect his work in the northern cities; Maria is to close the house to save Aunt the work; they are to go to Chamonix without having booked a hotel as mail is so delayed; Mr. Burns has not invited Uncle to his wedding despite all his kindness; Mr. Burns has the reputation of someone who only chooses to know people of use to him; Miss Chartres is very rude not to go back to see her father before getting married; she is marrying too quickly; fleas still a nuisance; booklets have not yet arrived.
