DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Metz, to her relatives, regarding request to play at a Christmas fete to accompany a Mme. Perin, regret that art is so often sacrificed by religious people, massage of Mlle. Stoufflet, Mlle. Guyard is to leave and there is a serious dearth of nurses in Lorraine, Mme. Remy is still convalescing, Mlle. Stoufflet begged Amelia to return to Plantieres, but she refused, the wards are full at present and there is to be an influx of diphtheria and scarlatina cases into a new ward from the contagious ward, and that would have been Amelia's post, but she will not risk infection and exhaustion, she regards Mlle. Stoufflet as selfish for asking, possible future for Red Cross nurses being paid as they are more flexible than military nurses who do not work nights and are entitled to time off, 'the aftermath of war lasts as a rule five years', which results in a lot of winter illness through weakness, there are also a good few hernia cases in the regiments awaiting treatment.
