DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Metz, to her relatives, regarding short letter as she has to copy Mr. Gray's accounts to send to her parents, summary of the contents, cost for transport of their possessions from Rome to Metz, the church was too cold this morning and Aunt should probably not go again during the winter, sermon on John Huss, Malgaches singing a song in their own language which could teach Mme. Brunel something, Amelia's clever responses to Mme. Brunel's criticisms at choir practice, the organist in church knows no French, comes from Thionville and is not part of the congregation, Mme. Christen's amusing comments on the choir while receiving her massage, beginning hospital duties for the Red Cross course, given dressings to do with no sterile conditions, so now she is working two days a week at the Bon Secours and two at Plantieres, for experience in eyes and ears, 400 recruits are examined each day, she will also see expert operations, the Bon Secours shows her a different view, 'the weary and old and worn, the victims of marital brutality and the results of vice of the lowest order', foundlings in a poor state, older children cheery, 'The young married women are a pathetic group to whom husbands have been a curse - and how many of them there are!'.
