DescriptionLetter from Amelia Nyasa Laws, Paris, to her parents, saying that she has received a telegram saying that Uncle and Aunt have arrived safely in Turin, Captain Coventon helped them to secure a horse omnibus in London to take them to Victoria and the beginning of a crowded train journey to Folkestone, volunteers manning everything in London and the Royal Engineers managing luggage and cargo at the docks, Nora Hunter had arranged a quick passport inspection for them at the Boulogne end, but Uncle refused to co-operate until it was almost too late, he maintains still that it was a mystery and that his name was omitted and told Hale Benton of this, embarrassing Amelia, usual complaints of Uncle's attitude to the young and the female, Aunt suffered from the journey, meeting Miss Gatliff, struggle to secure the luggage next day, taxi ride to Miss Gatliff's in the rain, useful contact for Red Cross work, return by Metro, visit to the Association des Dames Francaises to apply for a post in the liberated territory, nurses seem to be needed at Metz, visit to Dr. Gros, who was stiff at first but grew more courteous as her experience was made clear to him, he gave her the address of the office of the Secours aux Blesses Militaires whose president is 'a progressive woman', all the wounded had seemed to vanish into thin air after the war, at least as far as the public was concerned, praise for the American hospital at Neuilly, preparations for sending Uncle and Aunt on to Turin, though Aunt not really fit to travel, description of the trains leaving the station all at once, Aunt's cold is now much better, meeting arranged with Mm. Carnot, president of the A.D.F. in Paris, by the commandant of the 201who was extremely complimentary, she abandons the other Red Cross Bureaux and goes to the A.D.F. next Tuesday.
