Administrative HistoryAberdeen Association of Civil Engineers was established in December 1900, with the broad objectives of promoting the interests of the profession in the City and District of Aberdeen. Based upon the lines of the Civil Engineers in London, it was intended to provide an opportunity for members to exchange professional ideas, and to provide assistance to students and young members of the profession living and working in the city. Its establishment coincided with the foundation of a chair of Engineering in the University of Aberdeen. Meetings, held at Gordon's College (later Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology, now Robert Gordon's University) attracted an early membership of around 70 individuals. The Association is a branch of the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Association (founded in 1938) and an associated society of the Institution of Civil Engineers (joined in 1987).
