Description | Lockhart's 'lemon copies' of the Anthropological Museum's slip catalogue, understood to hold details of objects deposited in the museum from 1912 - 1978, immediately prior to Lockhart's retirement from the post of Honorary Curator. Annotations on each slip indicate whether items were presently 'displayed' (marked with a tick), 'in store' (unmarked), or have been photographed (marked with a 'P' at top).
A single typed page, or slip, records details of each accession, object or assemblage: this includes title, reference number, description, measurement, details of provenance (if known), and bibliographic references. The collections are grouped according to their geographical origin and the slip catalogue is arranged in groups, accordingly, viz.:
I - Europe II - North Africa III - Asia IV - Polynesia V - America (North, Central and South America) VI - Australia VII - Melanesia VIII - Africa (South of the Sahara) |
