Administrative HistoryR. A. Hamilton worked at the Meterological Office in Prestwick Airport, Ayrshire and was second-in-command and chief scientist for the British North Greenland Expedition which ran from 1952 to 1954. The chairman of the expedition committee was Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Algernon Churchill, and Commander James Simpson RN led the expedition.
DescriptionCorrespondence between R.A.Hamilton and James Paton regarding the British North Greenland Expedition, and auroral observations made during the expedition. The content of the correspondence chiefly concerns Hamilton's application to Paton for advice on making auroral observations. The auroral observations fall into three sections: observations made at Britannia Lake, 1952-1953, observations made at Britannia from September 1953 to March 1954, and observations made at "Northice" during the winter 1953-1954.
