- Marine observations from O.W.S. Weather Explorer and Recorder, Newfoundland, Parthia, 'Melbourne Star' (South Indian Ocean), 'Port Pirie' and S.S. 'Hyrcania' (both Bass Strait), and S.S. Bassano (North Atlantic Ocean), amongst others. Several observations made on the North Atlantic Ocean.
- In the months leading up to July, land observations mainly come from England and Scotland, with some from Northern Ireland, Wales and Eire. Occasional observations made from Iceland.
- From July onwards, land observations are made from places in the West, East and South (Aurora Australis) of the world, such as the United Kingdom, Portugal, Denmark, France, Poland, Netherlands, Germany and then-called Rhodesia.
- Meteorological office observations are mainly from Scotland and surrounding islands (Benbecula, Orkney, Skye), Eire and Northern Ireland (chiefly Mullingar, Midleton, Valencia and Clones), and England (mainly Acklington, Manby and Watnall).
- Air observations made on routes to and from London, Glasgow, Eire, Northern Ireland, Iceland, America and Canada.
July onwards: increase of data as the International Geophysical Year officially begins.
January folder includes a detailed and illustrated report of visual observations of the 21/22 January aurora seen in Yugoslavia.
July folder contains a map of the United Kingdom marked with locations of many observations, and observations from Faroe Climate Stations from July 1957 to December 1958.
September data includes detailed observations for the aurora on 29-30th September.
October folders include tabular plots of sightings in Denmark and detailed Danish land and lightship observations. |
